The Primary Program at the Foundry Montessori School is a 3 year program. In a primary classroom we aim for a balanced mix (of ages 3, 4, and 5) and maintain a ratio (7:1) of student to teacher.

This is by design, since it provides children a consistent learning environment and where they feel safe, grow confident, and thrive. It also enables teachers to guide each child at their own pace regardless of age and facilitates peer to peer learning.

“Our son’s three years in Ms. Karen’s Montessori classroom were fantastic–full of warmth and practical skill building with a pinch of magic. Karen is a passionate and masterful Montessori early childhood educator who makes connections with students and families, builds students’ positive learning behaviors and outcomes, and creates community. Foundry Montessori School is a welcome addition to Cold Spring, where Karen will surely touch the lives of generations of children.”

— Laura Kaufman and Matt Frieburghaus, Cold Spring, NY

“Montessori taught me the joy of discovery, it showed you can understand pretty complex theories, like Pythagorean theory, say, by playing with blocks. It’s all about learning on your terms, rather than a teacher explaining stuff to you. SimCity comes right out of Montessori—if you give people this model for building cities, they will abstract from it principles of urban design.”

— Will Wright, Creator of SimCity and Montessori alumni
